Membership and Management Committee

Management Committee FAQs

What is the IWaG Management Committee?

The Management Committee is the team of volunteers who guide IWaG’s direction and ensure we keep delivering on our mission of helping greyhounds find their forever homes. Think of it as the “behind-the-scenes crew” who look after the big-picture stuff like planning, finances, and governance, so the whole organisation can thrive.

Who can join the Management Committee?

If you’re a current IWaG member (over 18), share a love for greyhounds, and want to contribute a little extra time and energy, you could be a great fit! You don’t need to be an expert — just someone willing to learn, collaborate, and bring your ideas and enthusiasm to the table.

Are there any legal requirements?

Yes — because IWaG is a registered charity in Australia, all committee members must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be a financial member of IWaG

  • Not be bankrupt or insolvent

  • Not be disqualified from managing a charity by the ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission)

Beyond that, members are expected to act in good faith, declare any conflicts of interest, and always make decisions in the best interests of the hounds.

What support will I get if I join?

You won’t be on your own — every role is backed by fellow committee members and a wider volunteer team. It’s very much a group effort, and you’ll be supported as you settle into your role. There’s always room for learning, asking questions, and trying new things.

What skills or experience are helpful?

Every greyhound lover brings something different to the table! While skills in finance, communications, fundraising, or leadership are handy, what matters most is your willingness to pitch in and learn. Fresh perspectives, creative ideas, and lived experience as a hound owner or foster carer are all incredibly valuable.

What's the commitment like?

Committee members:

  • Attend regular meetings (usually monthly)

  • Help with decision-making on welfare, fundraising, events, and strategy

  • Support projects that match your skills or interests

  • Commit for a 12-month term (until the next AGM, when all positions are re-elected)

It’s a volunteer role, but you’ll be surrounded by passionate, dog-loving people who will cheer you on and support your growth.

How are committee members chosen?

Committee members are nominated and elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). If positions open up during the year, casual vacancies can sometimes be filled too. Complete a nomination form here.

What roles are there?

The committee includes:

  • President (Chair) – leads the team and represents IWaG publicly

  • Vice President (Deputy Chair) – supports the Chair and steps in when needed

  • Secretary – keeps records, minutes, and handles compliance

  • Treasurer – manages the finances and reporting

  • Ordinary Committee Members – get involved in projects, share ideas, and support decisions

Every role is important and contributes to IWaG’s success.

Membership FAQs

What does the membership cost, and what do I get in return?
  • Adult membership is $25 per year; Junior membership (under 18) is $10.

  • Members receive a Supporters Pack, enjoy 15% off IWaG merchandise, and adult members gain voting rights at the Annual General Meeting. In doing so, you also help us maintain a steady income to support our rehoming mission.

Why does IWaG require membership?

Membership both supports our operations financially and connects you more closely with the organisation. As members and volunteers, you become part of the driving force behind our mission to rehome greyhounds.

How do I become a member?

Simply fill in a membership form (new or renewal) on the website, stating details like how you heard about IWaG, and proceed with payment via bank transfer, cheque, or money order.

How can I get more involved beyond membership?

As a fully volunteer-run charity, IWaG welcomes offers of time, skill, and energy! You can help by running event stalls, fostering, handling transport, managing social media, organising fundraisers, crafting items, and more. Fill in a Volunteer application form.

Can I join the IWaG Management Committee? What are the requirements?

We don't currently have public details on the application process or specific criteria for committee membership. However, steps likely include:

  • Having relevant volunteer experience or particular skills (e.g., in governance, finance, operations).

  • Being nominated and elected at the Annual General Meeting
